The 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand devastated the city and surrounding regions both physically and emotionally. AIG responded quickly to help ease the burden with volunteer training and a donation to the Red Cross relief effort.

As a global company, AIG brought extensive experience in handling earthquake and other catastrophe claims, including the knowledge that speed and flexibility are paramount in these extraordinary situations. AIG assisted its Christchurch customers by making fast interim payments, and ensuring that their buildings were safe enough for occupation or otherwise relocating their operations as quickly as possible. In doing so, AIG helped the families and communities of Christchurch to continue working. AIG rated highest for overall claims handling in a broker survey following the quake and to date, has settled 95% of its commercial claims in a resurgent Christchurch, including some of the largest and most complex claims in New Zealand history.

Since 2012, AIG has had the honor of being the Official Insurance Partner of the legendary All Blacks and the privilege to be part of the excitement that the team’s dedication inspires. The Haka 360° experience was filmed in Christchurch at the All Blacks Test match against Argentina, played in the temporary stadium built in a record of less than 100 days. The Test match also provided an opportunity for some of the team to tour the city to personally experience the rebuild and growth.
